Free and open to the public
On Fire, an exhibition of Larry Schwarm’s dramatic photographs of controlled agricultural burns in the Midwest, is in its final weeks at the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of the Wilson Special Collections Library.
On Thursday, May 22, Schwarm will deliver a free public talk at 5:45 p.m. to mark the exhibition’s closing.
Schwarm, Distinguished Professor of Photography at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, said in an artist’s statement that the photographs capture “the sublime and mystical character of the burning landscape, where images are at once both sensuous and menacing.”
This closing event gives visitors a unique opportunity to view the exhibition and hear about its inspirations from the photographer.
The exhibition On Fire in Wilson Library was co-curated by the Library’s Public Art Committee and Ann Stewart Fine Art of Chapel Hill.
